Our manifesto

Stop working.
Start innovating.
Keep empowering.

Now
 is
 the
 time
 to
 stop
 the
 drudgery.
 That
 feeling
of
never‐quite‐being‐caught‐up.
 That
 feeling
 that
 you
 just
 might
 have
 everything
 you
 need
 for
 a
 project,
 if
 you
could
only
find
it.
That's
 called
work.
 We’re
 against
 work.
 We’re
 for
 innovating.
 Get
 to
 the
 best
 part,
 the
 energizing
 part,
 right
 from
 the
 start—thinking,
 doing,
 creating.

And,
 while
 you’re
innovating,
keep
 empowering!
 There’s
 nothing
 we
 like
more
than
figuring
out
how
 to
 minimize
 our
 environmental
 footprint
 and
 maximize
 our
 societal
 impact.
 We
 think
 you’re
 that
 way
 too.
 You’re
 good
 people.
 Our
 kind
 of
 people.
 We’re
in
this
together.
So
let’s
get innovating.

Our passion

As a company, we’re passionate about empowering people to make a difference. We believe in balancing people, planet and profit. This triple bottom line is at the heart of all we do. We continually endeavor to build an enduring business with minimum ecological impact and maximum social value because it is simply the right thing to do. We believe it’s always people before technology and individual success comes with team success. We hope that FMYI inspires people to work together towards a common goal by enabling collaboration that inspires innovation and promotes sustainability. We hope that each FMYI workspace organizes details so teams are united in their shared mission because we believe it’s all for one and one for all.

Our beginning

Like many, we were frustrated with all the emails flying around and unsatisfying collaboration systems out there. Whatever they are called (file sharing programs, intranets, knowledge management tools, project management software, content management systems, etc.), they're uninspiring, are overly complicated, aren't comprehensive enough, and have minimal support. Why can't these systems be cost effective, simple to use, and customizable by anyone? Why do Internet companies bury their phone number or not have one at all? What are they hiding from? It all seemed like common sense to us that people would want something like FMYI. So we began our journey in 2004 and built our system after extensive research, with clean design, speed, and intuitive functionality as the primary goals. Oh, and we have an easy to find toll free number to call: 888.FMYI.COM. Imagine that.

Our clients

FMYI has worked with Aflac, HBO, Hyatt, Sony, Target, Office Depot, Fox, The North Face, Martha Stewart, Disney, and thousands of other companies, government agencies, universities, and nonprofits in countries across the globe. We're honored that so many have chosen to use FMYI, and the whole team here works hard to provide personal one-on-one service to make the experience even better.

Our sustainability commitment

Sustainability has been a part of our DNA from the beginning and our commitment to corporate responsibility is written into our Articles of Incorporation. Through our internal company practices, digital collaboration product, and community engagement, we are using our business as a platform to raise awareness about sustainability. It's simply the FMYI way. More details can be found in the sidebar to the right.

    Company

At FMYI, we realize that sustainability is not an easy sprint or long-haul marathon, but rather a journey towards zero impact. Our goal is to minimize our environmental footprint, and maximize our societal impact. We know that there's a long way to go, but here's what we're doing currently:

Energy: We recently achieved the City of Portland's Climate Champions designation. Carbon offsets for the energy used by our servers and your computer provided by The CO2Stats Project. We're also a member of the Climate Savers initiative.
Transportation: Employees are encouraged to commute using public transportation or by bike. We offer discounts on car sharing through Zipcar, access to bikes, flexible telecommuting options, and provide monthly TriMet mass transit passes for eligible employees through the Lloyd TMA.
Recycling: Reduce, reuse and recycle is a corporate mantra and we're a Recycle at Work partner.
Office: We're a tenant of the Leftbank Project, which incorporated green building principles in its renovation.
Procurement: We utilize paperless collaboration on FMYI, computers rated at least silver through EPEAT, and business cards from Pinball Publishing. Sustainability is also part of the criteria we use when evaluating vendors.
Employees: Every employee goes through Natural Step Network training, Northwest Earth Institute discussion courses, and can take advantage of volunteer opportunities during the workday.
Community: Grants and discounts are provided to organizations engaged in social and environmental causes.

    Product

As a platform for digital collaboration and communication, FMYI minimizes a company or organization’s environmental footprint and maximizes their profit through eco-efficiency efforts and workflow features. Again, we know this is just a start, but here is what the product does currently:

People: Enables telecommuting by providing teams with an easy-to-use, organized location for all information. Creates community around content, bringing a team together across an office or around the world. Reduces stress by keeping everything organized and up to date in one place. Connects people with FMYI’s partnerships to promote sustainability including conferences, car sharing, and more.
Planet: Empowers a team with built in templates and content for starting and growing a sustainability initiative. Promotes digital collaboration, leaving a smaller environmental footprint. Reduces ink, toner and paper usage. Encourages more sustainable commuting practices through a tracker embedded in each workspace. FMYI purchases renewable energy credits for computer energy usage while on the site.
Profit: Saves money on printing and shipping. Saves money when people telecommute and avoids time lost when commuting. Saves money when people are up to date on the site and flying is reduced for catch up meetings. Generates profits through FMYI workflow features (efficient project management, institutional knowledge base, sales tracking, etc.) so business opportunities don’t slip through the cracks.
